We have a strong belief that healthy, happy children and staff take far more enjoyment in school. We have received our Healthy Schools Award from the Healthy Schools Parntership. Healthy Schools help children and young people to reach their potential by building on a solid foundation of health to do better in learning and in life. The Healthy Schools Programme isn’t just about physical health, it’s about good health and happiness inside and out. And it’s not just about pupils either; a Healthy School involves the whole school community – from parents to governors to school staff – in improving their health and their happiness and getting the most out of life. There are four main areas within the programme: - Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)' including SRE and drugs Education
- Healthy Eating
- Physical Activity
- Emotional Health and Wellbeing, including bullying

At Grange Primary School we aim to promote healthy eating. When we don't eat enough of the right foods, especially when we are still growing, it can be difficult to concentrate carefully on our work and behave appropriately. It is really important that we all have a sensible breakfast before we begin school to make sure that our bodies are fully fuelled before we start working. We run a breakfast club at school, where children can be dropped off early, have breakfast and take part in activities with their friends.
For more details, please contact the school office. Water It is also very important that we drink lots of water in order to keep our bodies hydrated. Each child in school is given a pop top water bottle that can be refilled thoughout the day from the water fountains that are plumbed in around school. If you send your child to school with an alternative bottle, please ensure that it has a pop top to help us to avoid spillages!

Physical activity is important for all of us at all ages. As part of our Change for Grange programme we have launched the Grange Get Active Logs. They work in a simular way to reading records. When children take part in physical activity that raises their heart rate, they can have the time that they were active for recorded in their log book. Activity can take place in PE lessons and outside of school. It might be walking the dog, karate lessons, running about in the park, dance classes or even active exercise on the wii fit! Children need to fill in their logs everyday and those who have done well will be commended in assembly. |

Emotional health and wellbeing is an integral part of our approach to teaching and learning at Grange Primary School. We all know that when we are worried, stressed or have things on our mind, it impacts on our ability to concentrate on day to day tasks. This is the same for adults and children alike. Good mental health encompasses confidence, openness, enjoyment, happiness, being calm and an ability to care for others, showing compassion and sensitivity to their situation. At Grange Primary School we promote good mental health by teaching stategies to cope with a wide variety of situations. We nurture a supportive and open environment where children, parents and staff are able to discuss their problems and find help. Social, emotional and behavioural skills contributing towards emotional health and wellbeing include: - being and effective and successful learner
- making and sustaining friendships
- dealing with and resolving conflict effectively and fairly
- being able to solve problems with others and alone
- managing strong feelings such as frustration, anger and anxiety
- recovering from setbacks and persisting in the face of difficulties
- working and playing cooperatively
- competing fairly and losing with dignity and respect for competitors
- recognising and standing up for your rights and the rights of others
- understanding and valuing the differences between people and respecting the right of others to have beliefs and values different from your own.
Emotional health and wellbeing is taught through PSHCE and reinforced throughout the curriculum and school life. We are lucky enough to have a learning mentor in school who is availible to support children and families who have specific emotional health issues. |
